True, but still. Vermont is almost as small, and it has 19. “Ah, but that’s in New England,” you say. Well, North Dakota is next — and it has 9. Check out this handy list:

Perhaps the state that does worst considering its size is Nevada, solidly in the middle of the pack as the 35th largest state, yet with an embarrassing four universities.
